A small gesture from the students at Crisp County Elementary made a big difference to one school board member.
At Monday night's Board of Education meeting, District Four Board Member Chris Anderson was welcomed back by his colleagues.
After spending the last few weeks recovering at home due to a surgery complication.
But that wasn't the only welcoming he got....
An envelope full of handwritten notes that read "Feel Better" and "Get Well" was given to him by the CCES Beta Club students. A gesture that lit up his day.
"The Beta Club at CCES, with their letters and support, really pulled on my heartstrings. It lets me know not only are we educating our students, for there to be so many Beta members at the elementary level, but also that we have caring, loving, and supportive young people. Their cards gave me a much-needed extra boost of encouragement after a long day," Chris said.
On July 14th, Chris went in for an operation on his neck at Emory Hospital in Tucker, GA.
During the operation, Chris suffered what doctors called a "Spinal Cord Stroke" in his thoracic spine.
Sadly, this left him paralyzed from his chest down.
But through it all, Chris has remained resilient and strong in his faith.
"While I do have feeling in my legs and I see small gains in sensation at times, everything below the waist remains with no movement," Chris explained. "While I do consider myself blessed in the fact that after a month or so, I have become to the point where my pain levels are managed without medication. As I read, a lot of people in my situation stay in pain. I do credit that to the God lord above and this whole community that has shown me nothing but love and support since the beginning. "
A sign that reads," Get Well Soon" from the BETA Club students was another gesture that he's not in this fight alone!
